Seeing your Heart Not as a Pump, But as a Vortex
By Ada Tourtsakis
Have you ever wondered why we went through school never learning the true power of the heart – and how it drives the body as a second brain? Anyone who’s worked with the emotional field of the heart knows there’s more to it than what we learned as kids.
Jamie Freeman on Twitter (X) wrote, “They taught that the heart was a hydraulic engine made of flesh – but this isn’t the full truth. For some of us—we’ve felt the heart’s intelligence not as a machine, but as a compass, a conductor, and an emotional gateway.
Science, too, is catching up. Freeman references the revolutionary work of Dr. Francisco Torrent-Guasp, who discovered that the heart is “a single continuous muscle band, folded into a spiral… a vortex generator, creating suction and torque, not pressure”. We can experience aspects of it when we breathe with intention or pray in stillness, you can feel your chest swirl with an influx of energy. Sometimes you can even physically feel the field moving.
This is consistent with Drunvalo Melchizedek’s teachings, in his “Awakening the Illuminated Heart” workshops.
Jamie Freeman also speaks to the resonance of the heart: “Your heart creates a toroidal electromagnetic field… It syncs with the earth, the sun, and every living being around you… It aligns the rhythm of your cells… It remembers… It emits… and it responds to emotion, thought, light, sound, and breath” This can be felt in meditation, in long silent walks where the heart became the listening drum of the forest.
The HeartMath Institute has measured what mystics have intuited for centuries—that the heart carries its own neuronal intelligence. It regulates the nervous system and serves as what Freeman beautifully calls “a resonating gateway between the physical and energetic worlds”.

So let us reclaim the wisdom of the heart—not just as a metaphor, but as a literal tuning fork of human coherence.
Here are a few simple ways you can begin aligning with your heart’s true design:
-
Heart Coherence Breathing
Place a hand on your heart. Inhale through your nose for 5 counts, exhale through your nose for 5 counts. Hold slightly after the outbreath before inhaling again. Focus on someone or something you love. This creates coherence between your heart and brain and instantly calms the nervous system. -
Tune into Heart Felt-Sense
Before making decisions, pause. Ask: “What does my heart say?” Wait for the warm or contracted pull. It’s a subtle guidance, it’s often quiet—but once you learn to tune into it, it’s unmistakable. -
Visualize the Toroid
Imagine a gentle field spiraling out from your chest, wrapping around your body in a donut-shaped loop. Picture it connected to the earth’s energy from below and to the solar rays from above. This strengthens your energetic presence. -
Listen to Heart-Centered Sound
Play music in 432 Hz or Solfeggio frequencies to recalibrate the heart field. Chanting, humming, or even gentle toning can stimulate the vagus nerve and increase heart-brain harmony.
As Freeman says, “Your heart is the instrument of your soul”.
